Wildlife
Whilst the wildlife is the star of the show, the backdrop to which one views the wildlife of North Luangwa is unsung hero - the towering Muchinga escarpement adds a dramtic backdrop to the flowing sandy rivers and meandering woodlands of the Maleeshi and Luangwa River beds, the lifelines of 'North Park'.
The wildlife viewing in and around Kutandala is phenomenal. North Luangwa is home to the highest density of elephant in whole of Zambia, not to mention the only stronghold of wild-roaming Black Rhino. This is Big 5 country and there is nobody else around! The major predators are present too, with lion and wild dog very well represented. Local specialities include the endemic Cookson's Wildebeest and near-endemic Crawshay's Zebra. Birding is top-class too, with hundreds of species recorded in and around the Kutandala, Mwaleshi and Luangwa River systems.
